Community Involvement
A child is unfulfilled when an absentee parent tries to buy her off with money or lavish gifts when all she really wants is love and security. Our less fortunate and isolated island families are similarly dissatisfied with absentee representatives who only show up once every other year at election time for a campaign photo opportunity, then disappear leaving behind empty promises. Our communities need more than government checks from Washington. They need representatives who lead by example. John is a stalwart member of his community. He is active in his PTA and volunteers to assist with community activities such as career day talks, fitness runs, fun fairs, disaster relief, and fund raising. While other candidates may read to children only at election time when there is a camera or news reporter close by, John volunteers regularly as a reading mentor at Moanalua Middle School. He believes that the people who know what's best for the community are the ones who live in the community. John will be an accessible, involved, and constant partner to Hawaii's communities.
